    Description

Elkhart Built by Buescher 95J? 3 Valve Baritone Horn Ser#565236 Detachable Bell Will Play with Adjust
    Additional Info:
This is a baritone that should be a really nice player once it is adjusted back into playing condition.  Currently it is considered non playing as the first valve needs a light adjustment where it sticks towards the bottom and the top valve cap needs an adjustment where it seems loose.  Once that is accomplished this should be a great playing horn!  There is no big physical damage to speak of and has typical player wear/dents and dings.  It should make for a good horn for the student level player.
    History offered by fellow eBayer:
Based on that serial number, it is likely this is a Elkhart bell mated to a another manufacturers body.
The "Built by Buescher" branding was launched by Elkhart BIC in 1950.
While the design does correspond to the Elkhart model 95J in the catalogs, the Elkhart serial numbers and branding ended in the low 100,000 serials, circa 1958.
Conn, by virtue of CD Greenleaf had ownership in Buescher since 1916 and Greenleaf was a founder of the Elkhart BIC subsidiary in 1919. AH Beardsley was also with Greenleaf in the Buescher 1916 purchase and the establishment of Elkhart BIC.
It is known that the Pan American subsidiary of Conn did produce brass instruments for Elkhart, to augment the line from the late 1920's.
In 1955, the serial numbers for all Conn band instruments, including subsidiaries were merged into one system, around serial 500,000. Pan American was closed out in the low 600,000's
In 1958 when Lee Greenleaf accessed to Conn leadership, Charles Greenleaf sold his Conn holdings and acquired control of Buescher.
Thus it is likely, Conn / Pan American produced the valve block for this baritone, while Elkhart produced the bell and receiver/lead pipe.
It was sold as an Elkhart model 95J.
